The Minister for transport, sport & tourist, Pascal Donohoe announced on Wednesday 30th of July 2014 a number of penalty point offences changes from the 1st of August 2014.These changes are being made under the RSA act 2014.
From Friday 1st of August 2014, speeding, holding mobile phone when driving & not wearing seat belt or not using child restraints will increase from 2 points to 3 points, as long as the fee of the offence is paid in time. For those who do not pay the fee of the offence in time, if they are convicted in court, the points will increase from 4 points to 5 points.
These new measures will help roads users to focus & stay safe while using public roads. The penalty points system is a preventive road safety measure.
Remember to fasten your seat belt & as a driver you are also responsible for children under 17 years of age not wearing their seat belt, watch your speed & turn off your mobile before you drive on the public road.
