Nine offences now attract higher penalty points while 14 additional offences now attract points.

There is also the introduction of penalty points for learner permit holders who fail to display a L-plate, and the failure of novice drivers to display a N-plate.
Those offences will affect two points to the driver’s licence upon payment of the fixed charge notice. If this offence involves a court appearance, the points applied to the licence increases to four.
Learner permit holders will now also face a penalty point if they are found to be driving their vehicles without the supervision of a full licence qualified driver of the same category. There are new offences being introduced with one penalty point each. Amongst these offences is the breaking of rules which apply to mini roundabouts and passing ‘no entry’ signs.
1) Changes to Existing Penalty Points Offences:
• Using vehicle without test certificate, was Direct Summons to court now: 3 to 5 points.
• Parking vehicle in dangerous position, was Direct Summons to court now: 3 to 5 points.
• Failure to drive vehicle on left, was 1 to 3 points now: 2 to 4 points.
• Dangerous overtaking, was 2points now: 3 to 5 points.
• Contravention of prohibition of driving vehicle along or across median strip, was 1 to 3 points: 2 to 4 points
• Failure to stop vehicle before stop sign or stop line was 2 to 4 points now: 3 to 5 points
• Failure of vehicle to yield right of way at a yield sign or yield line, was 2 to 4 points: 3 to 5 points.
• Failure of vehicle to comply with mandatory traffic signs at junctions was 1 to 3 points now: 2 to 4 points.
• Crossing of white lines by vehicle was 2 to 4 points now: 3 to 5 points.
• Failure by vehicle to obey traffic lights or to halt at traffic sign adjacent to such, was 2 points now: 3 to 5 points
• Contravention of general speed restriction for vehicles: 3 to 5 points.
2) New Offences
Existing Offences Not Previously Commend.
• Using vehicle not equipped with a speed limitation device or using a vehicle equipped with a speed limitation device not complying with requirements specified in Regulations: 3 to 5 points.
• Learner permit holder driving unaccompanied by qualified person: 2 to 4 points.
New Penalty Points Offences
• Failure to display N Plate or tabard: 2 to 4 points.
• Contravention of ban on U-turn: 2 to 4 points.
• Failure to display L-Plate or tabard: 2 to 4 points
• Contravention of rules for use of mini roundabouts: 1 to 3 points.
• Proceeding beyond no entry to vehicles sign: 1 to 3 points.
• Proceeding beyond maximum vehicle length sign where length exceeds maximum displayed: 1 to 3 points.
• Proceeding beyond maximum vehicle width sign where width exceeds maximum displayed: 1 to 3 points.
• Proceeding beyond maximum design gross vehicle weight (safety) sign where design gross vehicle weight exceeds maximum displayed: 1 to 3 points.
• Proceeding beyond maximum vehicle axle loading weight sign where vehicle axle loading weight exceeds maximum specified: 1 to 3 points.
